Welcome to the Sourdough Guild
Real Bread. Honest Fermentation. Built for Community.
Our Story: What Was Bread Before?
For years, bread was a simple staple. But as the years went on, I noticed mass-produced, store-bought sandwich breads started upsetting my stomach. I didn't know if it was the process of making these breads or the long list of ingredients in them.
Around that time, I began learning about the modern marvel that is our current industrial bread production process. As amazing as it is, it sacrifices a lot to produce bread at scale. Not only does it sacrifice nutrition, but it also dramatically affects our glucose levels. This led me to ask a fundamental question: "What was bread before all this industrialization?"
That question ultimately drove me to try making my own bread. In the beginning, I found traditional sourdough was far more challenging than I expected. But once I got a handle on the basics and got my own wild starter going, what a difference it made!
I started sharing my bread with friends and family, and it was an instant hit. Now, I bake bread every single week for them—and that joy of sharing real, nourishing food is what built the foundation for the Sourdough Guild.
The Kitchen at the Heart of Frederick
Today, the Sourdough Guild operates as a proud local cottage food bakery right here in Frederick, Maryland. Every single loaf of sourdough is mixed, shaped, fermented, and baked by hand in my home kitchen.
We believe that great bread should be accessible and fresh. That’s why we offer:
Easy Home Pickup: Stop by to grab your warm, freshly baked goods straight from our kitchen.
Local Delivery: We bring the bakery experience directly to your doorstep within the Frederick area.
Why Fermentation Matters
We don’t cut corners, and we don’t use artificial preservatives. Our breads undergo a slow, natural fermentation process using wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria. This patience pays off in two major ways:
Rich, Complex Flavor: The long ferment coaxes out deep, complex flavors and a beautiful, caramelized crust.
Natural Gut Comfort: Our slow fermentation process acts as a natural "pre-digestion" step, breaking down starch and gluten so the bread is incredibly gentle on your stomach.

The Vision: Building the Guild
While we are starting small with flour on our hands and fire in our home oven, our dreams are big. The word "Guild" was chosen with intention.
We want to expand this space into a thriving community. Our goal is to connect:
Bread Lovers & Enthusiasts who want to learn about the health benefits and joy of sourdough.
Fellow Cottage Bakers who share a passion for micro-baking.
Aspiring Entrepreneurs whom we hope to support in the future by building online and mobile tools designed to help cottage food operators successfully launch and scale their own dream bakeries.
